Joseph V. Capurro, Esq. ’80 has been selected by the State Bar of California for their 2016 State Jimenez Memorial Special Recognition Award as Applicants’ Attorney in the field of Workers Compensation. The award will be presented on Friday, September 30, 2016, during a reception at the California State Bar Annual Convention in San Diego.
Joe has practiced in the field of Workers Compensation Law since he was admitted to the California Bar in 1980. He is a sole practitioner at The Law Office of Joseph V. Capurro in San Jose, CA, and has represented injured workers before the Workers Compensation Appeals Board, various California Courts of Appeal, and the California Supreme Court. He has been a certified specialist in the field of Workers Compensation for over 20 years.
He is an active member of the California Applicants Attorneys Association and is a member of the Board of Directors. He currently serves on several committees of the organization and is Co-Chair of the Amicus Curiae Committee. He is a frequent lecturer on matters involving Workers Compensation, particularly on the topic of recent case law developments. Additional memberships include the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco, the Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group, and the American Association for Justice.
He and his wife Jackie have three adult sons, one granddaughter, and one grandson-to-be.
Allison Abbott-Kline '81 and her husband, Norman Kline '79 celebrated their 35th anniversary in June. They serve on the SCU Board of Fellows, are involved with SCU Catala and the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics. They live in the Rosegarden area of San Jose with their golden retriever Rose.
Mary Baden H. Haughey '82, senior vice president of operations for the YMCA of Silicon Valley, has co-authored the second edition of Dr. Marlene Bumgarner's book Working with School-Age Children. In addition to her work in Youth Development at the Y, Mary also teaches child development courses at Gavilan College. Mary lives in Morgan Hill with her husband, Norman. You can find her every Saturday riding her horse.
David Thornley Bronco '84 was named the new principal of Cabrillo Elementary in Fremont Unified School District. David began his career in Fremont USD in 1985. He has been a teacher, a trainer, a coordinator, and an administrator at the elementary level for many years. Most recently, he served as the acting principal at Patterson Elementary School. David and his wife Stephanie have three children and live in Fremont, California.
Melanie Kassen '86 worked for Warren Beatty after graduating. She has operated her own holistic health care practice in Los Gatos, CA for the last 21 years. In 2013, she published a children's book, Bruce and Juliet: The Unlikely Friendship of a Bubble Breathing Dragon and A Daydreaming Kitten.
Kathy Kale '86 will celebrate her 13th anniversary working in the SCU Alumni Office in August, 2016 and feels lucky to have the best job in the world. She and husband Jim live in San Jose with their two kids and is really looking forward to reconnecting with classmates and friends at the October Grand Reunion. Go Broncos!
John Del Santo '86 is a Senior Managing Director at Accenture where he is responsible for the Financial Services sector. He and wife Maureen (Meagher) '87 live in the Bay Area. Their daughter Maddie graduated last year from Boston College, son Jack is at USC and son Colin will be a freshman at SCU this fall — class of 2020!
After spending the last 20 years as a CFO/COO for Silicon Valley based venture backed companies, Kenton Chow '86, MBA '96 joined as a partner with Financial Leadership Group (FLG) Partners (www.flgpartners.com), the premier CFO service firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. He and his wife, Teri, live in Almaden Valley in San Jose, and have three daughters: Mikaela (Babson College), Kendra (University of Virginia), and Kianna (Archbishop Mitty High School).
