Peter Carcione ’63 had produce in his blood. His father was Joe Carcione, a television and media personality known as the “Green Grocer,”and his grandfather was Pete Carcione of Scatena Galli Produce Company. After serving in the Coast Guard, Pete started his own wholesale produce company in South San Francisco in 1969, Carmine’s Fresh Produce, Inc. He loved sharing his passion for and knowledge of fruits and vegetables with those around him, and maintained lifelong friendships with those in the biz. Pete served as president of the Golden Gate Produce Terminal for 27 years. Outside of work, he was active in the Rotary Club of South San Francisco and was a 75-year member of the Olympic Club. Pete died March 3, 2024, and is survived by family, including brother Charles Erle ’58.
