Esteemed Santa Clara baseball coach and former Cincinnati Reds player John Hardin Oldham died Feb. 24, 2024. Renowned for his 13-year coaching tenure, he secured three West Coast Conference titles and led the Broncos to four NCAA Tournaments. As a four-time WCC Coach of the Year, his legacy includes 433 victories and championships in 1994, 1996, and 1997. Beyond accolades, his influence extended to mentoring countless high school and collegiate athletes. Five players even ventured into professional baseball under his tutelage, including MLB All-Star Randy Winn ’98. Inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 as one of the most respected baseball coaches and players of his time, Oldham’s commitment to sportsmanship positively impacted all who knew him.
