In April 2020, neighborhood “bear hunts” popped up to cheer up children out walking in the residential areas around campus, where I live with my own (sad and scared and frustrated) young kids. I’ve spent a year waving at and cheering on my students, watching my colleagues, listening to the 4 and 5-year-olds my research centers, blowing kisses at my parents from across the country—all from behind the glass of our screens. And, now I, too, feel like a separated but eager teddy bear in a window.
