Rodriguez, James

James J. Rodriguez J.D. ’78 was recognized by Continental Who's Who among Pinnacle Professionals in the field of law. James is an Attorney at Valley Law Center, Inc. Possessing over 35 years of experience representing clients across the area, James is a seasoned attorney in practice at Valley Law Center since 1996. A Tax Specialist, certified by the California State Bar, his areas of concentration include estate planning and probate law, real estate, and taxation.

Inducted into 2015 Elite American Lawyers and recognized as a 2014 Industry Expert Top Lawyer, James keeps abreast of the latest in law through his professional memberships with the State of California Bar and Santa Clara County Bar Association. James attained his Juris Doctor from the Santa Clara University School of Law. He holds an additional MBA in Finance from UCLA as well as an LLM, Master of Laws in Taxation from Golden Gate University.

Potts, Samantha

Samantha Potts '03 is an inclusion specialist intern at High Tech High School, in San Diego, Calif. Combining her dual passions in exploration and education, Sam moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, for a year, post college to work as an intern in the Child Development & Diversity program at the same school Sam studied abroad with in college. Upon returning to the United States, Sam moved back to her native Utah and spent the following decade working in both private therapeutic and public school education in the realm of special education and support services. Although Sam enjoys working with all students with unique learning profiles and needs, she has especially enjoyed working with ASD students. The next adventure in Sam’s life brings her to California for the second time, where she is excited to join the Inclusion Department at HTHI and work at school dedicated to a PBL learning method. In her spare time Sam enjoys spending time with her dog, Bella, and swimming in the ocean. Her goal is to combine those two pastimes and teach Bella to go Stand Up Paddle boarding with her. Otherwise Sam can be seen pursuing her hobbies of hiking and biking around San Diego, and reading and perfecting the perfect gourmet grilled cheese sandwich.

Mowrer, Stig

Stig Patrick Mowrer ’06 married Elizabeth Brette Allen and on Feb. 17 at the Manhattan Marriage Bureau. Alisa Fuentes, a staff member in the City Clerk's Office, officiated. The bride, 32, who goes by Brette, helps manage advertising for luxury fashion brands at Google in Manhattan. She graduated from the University of Colorado. She is a daughter of Frances M. Allen and John M. Allen of Sanibel Island, Florida. She is a descendant of Henry Jarvis Raymond, the founding editor of The New-York Daily Times, which later became The New York Times. The groom, 33, who goes by Patrick, oversees the development of apps at Updater, a company in Manhattan that helps with tasks related to moving. He is the son of Kerstin M. Brunnstrom of Gothenburg, Sweden, and Jacques E. Mowrer of San Francisco. The couple met in 2013 at a mutual friend's party in Brooklyn.

Mahan, Patricia

Patricia Mahan J.D. '80 has been elected to the Santa Clara City Council. She was born and raised in Santa Clara. She owns a private practice, specializing in tax and estate planning. Patricia is married to John Boyles, a retired San Jose police sergeant, and they have one son, Colin, who is attending the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Her stepson Sean Boyles and his wife Roan Victor, both artists, own and operate “The Arsenal,” an art class and supply store. She served on the city council for three terms from 1994-2002, and again in 2010. Mahan was also mayor of Santa Clara from 2002-2010.

Long, David

Republican David C. Long J.D. ’83 won reelection to the Indiana State Senate representing the 16th district, a seat he has held since 1996. He serves as the leader of the Indiana State Senate. Prior to his election to the Senate, David Long served 1988–1995 as a member of the Fort Wayne Common Council from the Fourth District. He is married to Melissa, former news anchor at Channel 21 in Fort Wayne, and has two children, Adam and Erik.

Lofstrand, Darby

Darby Winterhalter Lofstrand '81 is a senior lecturer in Acting and Voice, at Northern Arizona University. As an actress she has worked in over one hundred productions in film and stage in Los Angeles, the San Francisco/Bay Area, and Portland, Oregon.  She has also developed and staged several performance art pieces, and she is the voice of Miss Kitty in the Uncle Percy's Adventures in Space educational shorts at Lowell Observatory.  She has directed one-person shows, festival plays, musicals, performance pieces, and film shorts.  Her 16mm short, HeartSister, was featured at the New York International Independent Film Festival. 

Darby is also a writer.  Her collection of short stories, Elephant Kisses: A Novel of Sweden Told in Five Stories, was released in Sweden to acclaim, and her novel Gang of Eight: The First Tee was relaesed a year ago. Her stage adaptation of Susan Lowell's children's books, Josefina Javelina, a Hairy Tale, and  The Three Little Javelinas, was produced for three years by Peaks Theatre Fest, and she has several full-length and short plays which have been seen or heard in various venues.

She is married to Tobias Lofstrand, the President of the Arizona chapter of the Swedish/American Chamber of Commerce, and enjoys travel and golf.

Carter, Kevin

Kevin Carter ’09 is a general partner of SV Angel, a San Francisco–based seed fund. He joined the firm upon launch in 2009. At SV Angel, Carter originated investments in Snapchat, Pinterest, Casper, GroupMe (acquired by Skype), and Sunrise (acquired by MSFT), and works particularly close with Remix, FarmLogs, Amplitude, and Optimizely. He was included in Forbes magazine’s 30 under 30 in 2012 and 2013. He is also on the Engineering Advisory Board at Santa Clara University. Prior to SV Angel, he worked in the Private Equity Group at Silicon Valley Bank (SVB). At SVB, he was a part of the Entrepreneur Services and Venture Capital Relationship Management Groups and helped with diligence and cross-platform relationship efforts. Before SVB, Carter worked at Affinity Circles, Inc., where he performed sales and client account management. While at SCU, he worked closely with the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, founded the CIE Mentor Program, and was awarded “Outstanding Student Entrepreneur.”

Callagy, Laura

Laura Callagy '91 is a Care Manager at Sage Eldercare Solutions where she has worked for 8 years. She has been involved in the elder care industry for over 20 years. She has worked for the Federal Government in the policy department for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services as well as serving as a bilingual claims representative with the Social Security Administration. Laura worked for a Peninsula Adult Day Health Program while attending graduate school. Laura has a Masters Degree in Gerontology from SFSU, is a certified care manager(CMC) and will complete her certification in Aging and Mental Health From UC Berkeley in March. Laura serves on the Board of Directors for the Ombudsman of San Mateo County. Laura and her husband Mark live in Foster City with their 5 children.
