Valentine's in June

Keith Palmer 95 happily married Rina Knoblock on June 14, 2014 at the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park, Calif. Having sadly both lost their first spouses to cancer, they met at a grief support group and share an amazing number of similarities and parallels in their lives. They both feel very fortunate for their second chance at love and that they did not have to look hard for each other. The couple is also expecting a baby boy this December. The first for both of them.

Eric Olson ’95 accepted a role as Genentech Product Development's Business Lead for the Smarter Information Management (SIM) initiative. SIM is a multi-year initiative aimed at transforming how the company manages and uses its vast clinical information. Eric, his wife, Kristin, and daughters, Greta and Sofie, will relocate as ex-pats to Basel, Switzerland, where Roche (Genentech's parent company) is headquartered.

Eric Olson '95 was recently appointed vice president, US Regulatory, at Genentech, Inc. Eric, his wife Kristin and daughters Greta & Sofie recently returned to Redwood City after living for two years in Basel, Switzerland, where Genentech's parent company, Roche, is headquartered.

Julie Meggers ’95 was promoted to executive vice president of PIMCO, a global investment management firm. Meggers is an account manager in the Newport Beach office, focusing on institutional client servicing. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2003, she was a strategic management consultant with Bain & Company. Prior to that, she was a senior auditor at Arthur Andersen and also lectured at St. Augustine University in Tanzania on auditing and cost accounting. She has 12 years of investment experience and she is a Certified Public Accountant.

Avery Lu ’95 was one of 23 distinguished speakers at the IoT (Internet of Things) Summit, Santa Clara Convention Center, in March. He presented "The State of Wearable Tech in Health and Fitness—Where Do We Go From Here?" Lu is the co-founder and CMO of Palo Alto Scientific. His team is currently working on a product called profileMyRun, an ultrathin, pressure-sensing insole that syncs with a smartphone through a low-power bluetooth clip. The profileMyRun system provides runners with real-time feedback on their running technique, resulting in less pain and injury, and improving running economy to help them win races. Jill Klees M.A. ’95 is the newest member of the Career Center team at Santa Clara. Jill is the counselor for alumni as well as graduate students in counseling psychology, education, and pastoral ministries.

Jill has worked in the career coaching field for more than 15 years in both academic and corporate environments. She gained extensive experience working in startup, nonprofit, and technology-based industries providing career-related resources within the Silicon Valley marketplace.  

Jill has extensive programming experience in developing innovative tools and resources to prepare her clients for the workforce and is highly skilled in helping her clients determine their unique talents and strengths. She holds a master’s degree in counseling from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco.

We are happy to have Jill as our colleague and feel fortunate to have her strong foundation of experience to support our alumni.

Yale Kim J.D. ’95 has been elected to the firm partnership Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP, a leading California real estate, business, and litigation law firm. Kim is a member of the Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Department in the firm's Los Angeles office. His practice focuses on bankruptcy case representation of creditors and litigation, with a particular emphasis on real estate related matters, including both commercial and residential. For commercial real estate matters, he assists clients with receiverships and foreclosures, guaranty litigation, and representation of secured creditor rights in chapter 11 and 7 cases. For residential real estate matters, he assists clients with foreclosure defense litigation, loan dispute litigation, including loan origination, servicing, and modification issues, and representation of secured creditor rights in chapter 13 cases. Yale serves as lead counsel to a number of financial institution clients in bankruptcy and litigation proceedings. Yale practices in all Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts of California, the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Yale's practice also extends to Federal Bankruptcy Courts outside California. Yale served from 1996 to 1997 as a judicial law clerk to The Honorable Barry Russell, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California, Los Angeles Division, and Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. Heidi Keefe J.D. ’95 was named to the Top Women Lawyers list by The Daily Journal.  Keefe is a Palo Alto-based Intellectual Property partner at Cooley LLP. Some of Keefe's notable clients include Facebook, Inc., HTC Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, eBay Inc., Nike, and LinkedIn Corporation. She represents clients in high-stakes patent trials before juries and judges. Keefe has played a leading role in the defense of Facebook's patent litigation cases since 2007, and is currently co-leading Cooley's legal team representing Facebook in its patent litigation suits with Yahoo!.

"Heidi's success handling high profile disputes for clients at the cutting edge of technology makes her a tremendous asset to our Litigation department," said Michael Rhodes, San Francisco-based chair of Cooley's Litigation department. "Heidi is a renowned litigator and her selection to this list is utterly well-deserved."
 
Keefe studied law at Santa Clara University, graduating cum laude and received her B.A. from Wellesley College. A former astrophysicist and registered patent attorney, she understands a variety of technical disciplines.

Rebecca Jacoby MBA ’95, CIO and senior VP of Cisco, has been elected to McGraw Hill Financial's board of directors. Jacoby, 53, advances the business through the use of Cisco technology. Under her leadership as CIO since 2006, Ms. Jacoby has made the IT organization a strategic business partner, producing significant business value for Cisco in the form of financial performance, customer satisfaction and loyalty, market share, and productivity. 

Prior to joining Cisco in 1995, Ms. Jacoby held a variety of planning and operations positions with other companies in Silicon Valley. She serves on the board of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara County and is a founding member of the Technology Business Management Council. She holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of the Pacific and an MBA from Santa Clara University.

Josh Hicks ’95, J.D. ’98 is a new shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, a firm practicing in the areas of real estate, natural resources, public policy, corporate, and litigation. Hicks is a member of the firm’s government relations department and taxation group. His tax practice focuses on Nevada state and local tax matters, ranging from tax planning to litigated tax controversies. Hicks’ government affairs practice focuses on representation before the Nevada Legislature, local governments and state government agencies. In addition, Hicks practices in all aspects of Nevada campaign finance and election law, including all aspects of ballot initiatives.
