First we pour, then it rains

Vintage Santa Clara XXVI
campus_200 Skies threatening rain couldn’t keep away a crowd of 2,200 alumni and friends of Santa Clara who descended on the Mission Gardens on Sept. 13 for the 26th annual Vintage Santa Clara wine festival. Tickets were snapped up in less than three days. Attendees sipped vintages from 49 wineries, tasting Chardonnay and Zinfandel, Rosé and Malvasia Bianca, and munched on comestibles from 15 restaurants—from grilled artichokes to focaccia to sushi to gelato. More than 100 volunteers and the Vintage committee worked with the Alumni Office staff to pull it off, with special support from Comerica Bank and When the rain did come, the day’s events were already a wrap.

This year was President Engh’s first attending the festival. However, another Jesuit school to the south happens to hold a wine festival: Fr. Engh’s home until last year, Loyola Marymount University.
