After serving seven years in the California Legislature (51st Assembly District and 26th Senate District) Curren D. Price Jr. J.D. '76 has returned to public service in Los Angeles. In June 2013, he was elected to the Los Angeles City Council, 9th District. On the council he chairs the Economic Development Committee and serves on the ad hoc committee to oversee and coordinate the city's bid and participation in hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics. He is married to businessswoman and social activist Del Richardson, and they have two grown children and three grandkids.
Juanita K. Williams '76 married Dennis E. Hanson Jr. on Aug. 29, 2015, in Honolulu, Hawaii, where they reside.
Rick Hagan '73, '77 writes, "I retired as director of Housing on August 3, which was also my 35-year employment anniversary at the University of San Diego. Being a time of reflection and counting blessings, I am very appreciative for the opportunity George Giacomini '56 provided when, in 1974, he entrusted me with the responsibility for supervising the residential life program at Santa Clara. Who would ever have dreamed of the amazing career that would result from that opportunity?!! I also want to thank Frank Oliva '74, Mike Radford '74, and Tom House '74, J.D. '77 for the support each of them provided me that led to such a rewarding career of working with college students for 40 years. However, now I am enjoying the flexibility retirement provides and spending more quality time with my wife, Suzanne, who continues to teach 3rd grade, plus our three children Ryan (28), Kelli (26), and Sean (24) who all live nearby in San Diego. I am already enjoying a fast start on my goal to do more traveling, with trips to Julian, Temecula, Anaheim for the D23 Expo, Mammoth, and Hawaii while beginning to plan for the European adventure Suzanne and I will experience together next summer."
Mark Kelsey '75, MBA '79 is senior vice president of Pacific Midwest Regional Banking at Wells Fargo, as well as the board chair of the Pathways Foundation, the fundraising arm of nonprofit Pathways Home Health & Hospice. He is being honored with the Leadership in Healthcare Philanthropy Award at the One from the Heart Awards Breakfast, an annual fundraising event hosted by Pathways. Since joining the Pathways Foundation Board in 2001, Mark has generously shared his remarkable relationship-building and financial management skills.
Mark Hurtubise ’79 M.A., president and CEO of Inland Northwest Community Foundation, was recognized for the third year in row (2013 by Spokane Coeur d’Alene Living as well as 2014 and 2015 by Inland Business Catalyst magazines) as among the “Power 50” who has the vision for affecting positive change in the North Idaho/Eastern Washington region. In October 2014, Inland Northwest Community Foundation was named “Philanthropic Organization of the Year” at an annual Spokane Philanthropic Awards reception.
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), representing U.S. leadership in semiconductor manufacturing, design, and research, today announced William M. Holt M.S. '79, executive vice president and general manager of the Technology and Manufacturing Group (TMG) at Intel, has been named the 2015 recipient of SIA's highest honor, the Robert N. Noyce Award. SIA presents the Noyce Award annually in recognition of a leader who has made outstanding contributions to the U.S. semiconductor industry in technology or public policy.
"For the last four decades, Bill Holt has been a tireless advocate, innovator, and leader for the semiconductor industry, helping advance new technologies that drive our industry and power our economy," said John Neuffer, president and CEO, Semiconductor Industry Association. "Throughout his distinguished career, Bill's expertise, skill, and unwavering determination have helped keep the semiconductor industry at the forefront of innovation. On behalf of the SIA board of directors, it is an honor to announce Bill's selection as the 2015 Robert N. Noyce Award recipient in recognition of his tremendous accomplishments."
Holt began his Intel career in DRAM development in 1974. Today, he is responsible for technology development and the company's worldwide manufacturing operations, including component fabrication, assembly and test, customer fulfillment, and supply chain management. Additionally, Holt oversees research and development in the areas of wafer process, package assembly and test, and design and technology computer-aided tools. Holt earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois and a master's in electrical engineering from the University of Santa Clara.
"It is a tremendous honor to join the ranks of Noyce Award winners, individuals who have built the semiconductor industry and made it a paragon of America's economic and technological strength," said Holt. "Throughout my career, I have focused on doing my part to advance the forward march of innovation, one step at a time. As I gratefully accept this award, I look forward to continuing to help our industry take the next step forward."
The Noyce Award is named in honor of semiconductor industry pioneer Robert N. Noyce, co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor and Intel. In addition to the presentation of the Noyce Award, this year's SIA Award Dinner will feature former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta as keynote speaker.
Longtime Bay Area baseball coach Lawrence "Mike" Cummins '79 has joined the San José State University baseball program as the team’s volunteer assistant coach. Cummins, a familiar name to fans of local baseball, brings more than 35 years of coaching experience to the Spartans, including 10 combined seasons as the head coach at Santa Clara and San Francisco State.
In his six seasons (2009-15) at the helm of San Francisco State, 14 Gators received All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) recognition, including the program’s first conference Freshman of the Year selection in 2013. SFSU’s 22 total wins in 2010 were the most since 2006, and the team’s 17 CCAA wins in 2014 and 2015 were the most since the Gators tallied 21 conference wins in 2004.
From 2003 to 2009, Cummins served as the head coach at Walla Walla (Wash.) Community College, where he guided the Warriors to a 151-121 (.555) record. In 2007, Walla Walla was crowned East Region Tournament Champion and received a bid to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) Championship Tournament.
Cummins had a 24-year coaching and playing stint at Santa Clara, including a four-year run as the head coach from 1997 to 2001. With Cummins on staff from 1988 to 2001, seven Broncos earned All-America honors, three were named West Coast Conference Player of the Year, three others won WCC Pitcher of the Year and two SCU rookies garnered conference Newcomer of the Year awards. He also played a role in the development of five Bronco catchers who went on to sign professional contracts, beginning with former Kansas City Royal Mike Macfarlane.
Prior to his time at Walla Walla, Cummins spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons as an assistant coach at Washington State.
A native of Monterey, Calif., Cummins played two seasons at Monterey Peninsula College before transferring to Santa Clara in the fall of 1977. He was a standout catcher on the 1978 and 1979 Santa Clara teams, helping the Broncos to an NCAA Regional appearance in 1978 and earning Second-Team All-Northern California Baseball Association honors as a senior in 1979.
After graduating from Santa Clara in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in history, Cummins signed a professional contract with the Salem Senators of the Northwest League, an independent Class A team, and batted .302 while leading the team in RBIs in his only year with the club.
Cummins began his coaching career in 1980 at Buchser High School in Santa Clara, where he guided the baseball team to a second place finish in conference. He also served as the head football coach of the junior varsity program at Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, Calif.
Cummins is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and Association of Professional Ball Players of America, and sits on the ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez Award Committee.
Natalie (Eblacas) Murphy '80, MBA '01 writes, "I have recently relocated to Bremerton, Washington, and am looking to connect with SCU Alumni in the area."

Thomas Deline '80 says, "I am a proud 1980 graduate of USC (now SCU) and St. Louis University School of Law in 1983. I was blessed in 1989 to marry Margaret 'Meg' Hencmann, and we are blessed to have our two oldest children attend and graduate from SCU, Elizabeth Deline '13 and Thomas 'Chris' Deline II '15. Our two younger children, Brian and Carrie, both chose another Jesuit university so that all four kids wouldn't be at SCU at the same time...we tried. Throughout the last 30 years it has never ceased to amaze me how all roads lead to Santa Clara. All the best to my classmates. Remember every day AMDG. TCD."
Tom Templeman '81 has joined Medivation as senior vice president of pharmaceutical operations. With more than 25 years of pharmaceutical experience, Dr. Templeman previously served as vice president of manufacturing, science, and technology at Hospira; as senior vice president, integrated supply chain at Liquidia Technologies; and in various leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson, where he worked for 13 years in a number of capacities, most recent as general manager of Centocor Biologics, LLC and head of the global biologics supply chain.
Medivation, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of medically innovative therapies to treat serious diseases for which there are limited treatment options. Medivation aims to transform the treatment of these diseases and offer hope to critically ill patients and their families.
P. Gregory Giordano J.D. ’81 is a partner and vice chair of the Gaming Practice Group at the law firm of McDonald Carano Wilson in Las Vegas. His practice focuses on gaming compliance, licensing and regulation.

Barb (Burns) Frank '75, MBA '81 writes, "I retired at the end of 2005 after almost 30 years with Intel Corporation in a variety of positions, mostly in finance and information technology. I am currently the president of the Intel Retiree Organization and treasurer for Community Bridges, the largest deliverer of family services in Santa Cruz County. In 2015, my first grandchild was born to our daughter Jessica Frank Brown '05, so we are planning on moving to San Francisco sometime next year to be closer to our children and my stepson and family. Every year since we turned 50, I have been organizing us 4th-floor Dunne girls for an annual girl's weekend. Very fun!"
In November, Maria Evans '81 was named Principal of the Year and bestowed an Excellence in Education award at the Legends and Leaders dinner, a signature event put on by the Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. Maria is principal of Washington Elementary, which is part of the Thriving Neighbors Initiative through the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education.
Kam Shadan M.S. '82, PE, a vice president of Gannett Fleming based in the San Francisco, California, office, is updating two key national guidance handbooks by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The handbooks are aimed at helping transit project sponsors plan, manage, and construct capital projects in compliance with FTA guidelines and best practices. The revised publications are expected to be released in early 2016.
The first, titled “The FTA Project Construction Handbook,” will assist project sponsors who plan to develop a large project for the first time. Projects include bus maintenance and operations facilities, bus rapid transit, and transit multi-modal terminal projects up to $100 million. Shadan was the original lead author for this handbook in 2006, and this latest version will be the third update in the past 10 years. The other book, “Project and Construction Management Guidelines,” is targeted for new projects typically ranging from $100 million to several billion dollars.
With more than 38 years of industry experience, Shadan has spent 15 years working directly for public utility and transit and rail agencies. He has provided national project management oversight for FTA capital transit and rail projects in Los Angeles, California; the San Francisco Bay area; Sacramento, California; Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Chicago, Illinois. In addition, he serves as a program management advisor and forensic expert witness on public and private development projects.
Active in professional organizations, Shadan has been a member of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Capital Projects Committee since 1998 and the Public-Private Partnership Committee since 2008. He also has served on the California Transit Association Executive Committee since 2007.
Shadan earned a master of science in engineering management from the University of Santa Clara and a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California Berkeley. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Harvard Business School executive seminars in project development and private equity. Shadan is a registered Professional Engineer and an engineering and general building contractor in California.
Kathryn Kane '82, J.D. '86 writes, "This fall, I will retire as a deputy county counsel, Office of County Counsel, County of Santa Clara. I have been a hearing, trial, and appellate counsel in the Child Dependency Unit for more than 25 years. I will forever be grateful for this amazing career opportunity."
Cynthia Gonsalves '82 lives in downtown San Jose with her wife of two years, Emma Humphries. She is a senior technician at Evans Analytical Group making samples for transmission electron microscopy and measuring surface contamination on all sorts of wafers.
Keith Lovetro MBA '83 has been elected to the board of directors of OmniTRAX Inc., one of the largest privately held rail and transportation service companies in North America. Lovetro currently serves as president and CEO of TRAC Intermodal, the largest intermodal chassis pool manager and equipment provider for international and domestic shippers in North America.
"We are fortunate to have such a skilled and connected leader as Keith join our board. His more than 34 years of management experience, including time with regional trucking, ground parcel, air express and air freight firms, will help guide all of our businesses,” said Brad Skinner, Chairman of OmniTRAX.
Lovetro has served as president and CEO of TRAC Intermodal since June 2011, growing revenue by 23+ % (CAGR) since joining the company. Prior to TRAC Intermodal, he was president and CEO of YRC Regional Transportation, responsible for the P&L performance of USF Reddaway, USF Holland, and New Penn Motor Express. He previously held executive positions at DHL Express and FedEx Freight West, and started his career at Emery Worldwide/CF Airfreight.
Lovetro holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, Davis, and a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Santa Clara. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of OmniTRAX, Mr. Lovetro is also on the Board of Directors of Interpool (parent company of TRAC Intermodal), the Institute of International Container Lessors and the Intermodal Association of North America and is member of the American Trucking Association and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.
Flex Pharma announced the appointment of Kathie Lindemann '83 as its chief operating officer.
Prior to joining Flex Pharma, Ms. Lindemann served as COO at DAVIDs TEA Inc. Ms. Lindemann also spent 19 years at Starbucks, where she held several leadership roles including senior VP, Starbucks Foodservice, SVP US Business Operations, and SVP International Operations, Store Development and Global Business Systems. She has been a director of Cambia Health Solutions, Inc. since June 2009.
“Since we see substantial opportunity to develop our consumer product as a global brand, I am looking forward to working with Kathie to leverage her extensive experience building and running operations ex-US as we plan to access key international markets,” commented Marina Hahn, president of Consumer.
Robert J. Reid MBA '84 writes, "I successfully completed a Ph.D. in business at Oklahoma State University in August. I earned the Owners, Presidents, and Managers certificate at the Harvard Business School (2006). For the past 21 years, I have served as the executive director of the J.F. Maddox Foundation, in New Mexico. Previously, I had a successful career in turning around and managing hospital companies."
Kathy Ventry '85 is in her third career as a licensed marriage and family therapist in Folsom, and is doing business as Peace Within * Anxiety, Trauma & OCD Treatment. She sees children through older adults, and also specializes in couples therapy. Kathy served 10 years in the Army followed by almost 18 years as a healthcare representative for Pfizer, with seven years as a neuroscience specialty representative. Kathy finds it rewarding and a blessing to now work in the mental health and wellness profession. She looks forward to relocating to Folsom from Elk Grove to have easier access to cycling and kayaking opportunities.
