Baylee Zwart ’10 designs 18k-gold fine jewelry that helps benefit ocean-related causes, in partnership with the Sausalito Marine Mammal Center. For every purchase, 10 pounds of food is donated to the Center—whose mission is to save and rehabilitate endangered marine mammals. Zwart’s collections are presented each season at Paris and New York Fashion Week and are sold at luxury retailers including Matches Fashion, Moda Operandi, Dover Street Market, and her own website, AzleeJewelry.com. Before starting AZLEE, Zwart led sustainability in product design at TOMS—a shoe company that donates one pair of shoes for every purchase made.

Christine M. Pham ’05, J.D. ’11 was named a 2017 honoree of the Silicon Valley Business Journal 40 under 40. Pham works for NASA at the Ames Research Center and serves as an attorney-advisor in the office of the chief counsel. Additionally, she is the president of the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Northern California Law Foundation.

Debut single "Crazy"

Blake Coelho ’11 has released his debut single “Crazy” as Los Angeles indie artist CASPR. Premiering on Atwood Magazine, the song can be streamed via Spotify and SoundCloud and features classically polished vocals and chilling reverberations over an electro-pop-driven beat. The name CASPR relates to Coelho’s pale complexion, which his friends repeatedly referred to growing up—in addition to his own affinity for all things spooky.

Sypek, Elle

Elle Sypek ’12 lives in Denver, Colorado, where she works with STRIVE Preparatory Schools and helps at-risk youth and their families. She earned a master’s degree in social work from Loyola University Chicago, focusing on mental health and migration studies. Before moving to Denver, Sypek twice volunteered at Aarti Home, a Global Fellows Program partner organization in India. A shelter for abandoned children, primarily girls, Aarti works on a United Nations–funded project attempting to end infanticide as well as female feticide.

Dominic S. Irudayaraj, S.J., STL ’12, STD ’15 is a senior lecturer and senior research fellow teaching biblical courses in Hekima University College, Nairobi. He is a Jesuit priest of Andhra Province, India, and writes that he’s “glad to be in this green city (Nairobi) with its passion for the Bible—both in class and in the pastoral fields, sharing what JST-SCU has imparted in the area of biblical studies.”

Gabriella Ziccarelli J.D. ’13 has been named Women in Technology’s “Rising Star” for 2017. She was honored at the organization’s 18th annual Leadership Awards on May 11. Women in Technology (WIT) is the premier organization contributing to the success of professional women in the Washington, D.C., region’s technology community. The “Rising Star” award is presented to a woman who has achieved success in the technology field, empowers colleagues to be architects of change in the technology industry, advances women in technology, and is actively involved in extracurricular, community, and civic activities.

Kromm, Genevieve
Genevieve Kromm (far left) at the Fulbright Austro-American Studies Seminar, where she received recognition for serving as a regional advisor.

Genevieve Kromm ’13 completed her 2015–17 Fulbright research and teaching grant in Austria. She took classes in musicology, ethnomusicology, and music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and served as a regional advisor for the Fulbright USTA Program 2016–17 while teaching English at Austrian public schools.

Kromm’s research project focused on Vienna as an imperial and cultural epicenter during World War I—specifically examining how early methods of institutionalized censorship and propaganda influenced Vienna’s music scene. She writes, “I was very privileged and honored to have been affiliated with the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna for my research and development as a brass musician. The other half of my grant was teaching English in two high schools in Vienna for the last two years. Between the two schools I worked with approximately 300 students in the advanced English classes and I prepared lectures and discussions on American history, politics, and culture.”

During this time, he raised more than $4 million to ensure the success of a $14 million campaign. Iritani brings a proven track record of identifying, cultivating, and stewarding new donors to the College as it continues to build its fundraising arm.

Christian Mora-Castrellon J.D. ’15 works in legislation as a congressional staffer for the office of U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren J.D. ’75. As a graduate student, she spent a spring break in Puerto Rico investigating health and environmental concerns left behind by the U.S. Navy. Together with a small group of students for the International Human Rights Clinic, she produced a brief that was heard by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

During his time at SCU, Matt Cresci ’15 balanced being a student and a racecar driver. Less than two years after he graduated, he was awarded a $100,000 Mazda Road to 24 Scholarship, which allowed him to race in the Global MX-5 Cup. Cresci has partnered with Slipstream Performance for the 2017 season.
