Cooper MBA '80 has been appointed to the board of directors of ProNAi Therapeutics, a clinical-stage oncology company advancing novel therapeutics for patients with cancer. Cooper has served as an independent consultant for life science companies since January 2014. Previously, he served at KaloBios Pharmaceuticals and BioMarin Pharmaceutical. He has also served as VP of finance at Matrix Pharmaceutical.

Joseph V. Capurro, Esq. ’80 has been selected by the State Bar of California for their 2016 State Jimenez Memorial Special Recognition Award as Applicants’ Attorney in the field of Workers Compensation. The award will be presented on Friday, September 30, 2016, during a reception at the California State Bar Annual Convention in San Diego.

Joe has practiced in the field of Workers Compensation Law since he was admitted to the California Bar in 1980. He is a sole practitioner at The Law Office of Joseph V. Capurro in San Jose, CA, and has represented injured workers before the Workers Compensation Appeals Board, various California Courts of Appeal, and the California Supreme Court. He has been a certified specialist in the field of Workers Compensation for over 20 years.

He is an active member of the California Applicants Attorneys Association and is a member of the Board of Directors. He currently serves on several committees of the organization and is Co-Chair of the Amicus Curiae Committee. He is a frequent lecturer on matters involving Workers Compensation, particularly on the topic of recent case law developments. Additional memberships include the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco, the Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group, and the American Association for Justice.

He and his wife Jackie have three adult sons, one granddaughter, and one grandson-to-be.

Templeman, Tom

Tom Templeman '81 has joined Medivation as senior vice president of pharmaceutical operations. With more than 25 years of pharmaceutical experience, Dr. Templeman previously served as vice president of manufacturing, science, and technology at Hospira; as senior vice president, integrated supply chain at Liquidia Technologies; and in various leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson, where he worked for 13 years in a number of capacities, most recent as general manager of Centocor Biologics, LLC and head of the global biologics supply chain. 

Medivation, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of medically innovative therapies to treat serious diseases for which there are limited treatment options. Medivation aims to transform the treatment of these diseases and offer hope to critically ill patients and their families.

Mitchell, Kelly (Rickon)

Kelly (Rickon) Mitchell '81 has been inducted in the Santa Clara University Athletics Hall of Fame. Mitchell, a two-sport standout at Santa Clara, was a two-time member of the U.S. Olympic women's rowing team. She was awarded a Congressional gold medal for the boycotted 1980 Olympic Summer games and went on to become the captain of the 1984 Olympic team, helping the Americans claim the silver medal as coxswain. During her junior season, she was also the coxswain for the U.S. women's team that placed sixth at the 1979 World Championships. A member of both the Santa Clara men's rowing and women's cross country teams, she has remained involved in sports. Mitchell, a coxswain for the 1979 and '80 Santa Clara men's rowing team, was chair of the ethics committee on the board for U.S. Rowing, a manager for the World University Games, area director for Southern California Olympians, and a member of ZLAC Rowing Club. She worked to help build the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA, before going on to earn her master's in Leadership and Nonprofit Management from University of San Diego. She currently works as a development director at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego where she lives with her husband and two sons.

Julio Ledesma IV '81 is winding up a second tri-term at the Philippine House of Representatives; having been elected to the 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, and 16th Congress. He has chaired the Labor (11th), Energy (11th), Ways and Means (12th), and  Science and Technology (15th) committees and is currently senior vice chair of the Ways and Means Committee. Jules plans to return to the private sector.

He is founder and principal steward of their Family Trust — a giving pledge Inspired Org. Its first foray into PhilanthroCapitalism was the Agri-Agra Group.
