Alex Loera ’21, M.S. ’21 is the first official player signed to Bay FC, the National Women’s Soccer League team founded by four SCU alumni.

The defensive midfielder was acquired in a trade with the Kansas City Current, where she made her professional debut in 2022.

Loera says she’s excited to return to the Bay Area and join a team “that is new to the league but has a deep, rich history of soccer excellence.”

“It’s such an incredible asset to have them as mentors, and friends. If I’m struggling with something in my game, I know that I can go to them and they’re going to tell me straight up… I have high aspirations for myself and I know with their guidance I can get there,” Loera said on a segment for CBS Sports when asked about the founders of Bay FC, fellow alums Brandi Chastain ’91Danielle Slaton ’02Aly Wagner ’02, and Leslie Osborne ’05.

Bay FC begins its inaugural season in March 2024.
