Filling in the Gaps

Santa Clara University is funding a partnership to support Latinx students and reduce inequity.

Santa Clara University is one of four winners of the 2024 Institutional Challenge Grant which will fund a research partnership between SCU’s School of Education and Counseling Psychology, the Latino Education Advancement Foundation, and The Foundation for Hispanic Education to support Latinx students.

SCU director of educational leadership Pedro Nava and fellow scholars will study educational inequalities for East San José Latinx students transitioning from high school to college. This work builds upon Santa Clara University’s long history of community-based learning in East San José.

“Through this project, we aim to eliminate opportunity gaps, celebrate diverse identities, and empower students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds for leadership and success,” said Dr. Sherry Segura, CEO of The Foundation for Hispanic Education.
