Responsible AI

SCU School of Engineering’s new program in responsible artificial intelligence aims to lay the groundwork for a holistic understanding of AI.

Santa Clara University School of Engineering is starting a new interdisciplinary program in responsible artificial intelligence led by Associate Professor Yi Fang in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

The program will focus on interdisciplinary research and ethical AI education and cultivates partnerships in industry for companies harnessing AI to benefit society.

One of the program’s initiatives is the launch of a new undergraduate minor in responsible AI in the fall 2024 quarter. Additionally, the program will develop online educational materials open to non-engineering majors and host regional workshops.

“This minor will be accessible to a wide range of majors,” Fang says, “providing an interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters a holistic understanding of AI and its ethical, societal, and economic implications.”
