A New Mission

Fr. Matthew Carnes, S.J., M.Div.’03, is set to bring his passion for mission and ministry to SCU as the new Vice President for Mission and Ministry at SCU.

Jesuit priest, University trustee, and renowned Georgetown professor and administrator, Fr. Matthew E. Carnes, S.J., M.Div.’03 has been appointed Vice President for Mission and Ministry at SCU.

Carnes will oversee the Division of Mission and Ministry, including campus ministry, the Mission Church, and the Ignatian Center, where he’ll direct programs such as Immersions and Arrupe Engagement. He will also oversee mass activities.

Carnes brings with him a wealth of experience, including a passion for political science and Jesuit scholarship, which has allowed him to work across the globe. Carnes has combined these foci to conduct extensive research on the labor and social welfare policies of Latin American countries and build lasting relationships with Jesuit universities there.
