Beyond ‘Bad Apples’ by Julie Hanlon Rubio and Paul Schutz was funded by a grant from an initiative advancing research from Jesuit educational institutions that confronts the causes and legacy of sexual abuse. Through interviews with 300 priests, nuns, and laypeople, the SCU study examines clericalism—or the power structure that grants priests excessive authority—and suggests strategies for change.
