Diggs on Campus

SCU adds Taye Diggs to its roster of Frank Sinatra Chair in the Performing Arts luminaries.

Taye Diggs is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking role as Benny in the original cast of the Tony Award–winning musical Rent, as well as Winston Shakespeare in the film How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

He’ll be hosted by the Center for the Arts and Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences. While on campus, Diggs will work closely with the theatre and dance and English departments and will host workshops for students and the general community.

Diggs is the latest in a line of acclaimed performers to hold the Sinatra title at SCU; Anna Deavere Smith, the Silk Road Ensemble, and W. Kamau Bell held the honor in recent years. The Frank Sinatra Chair in the Performing Arts was established in 1980 with proceeds of the 14th annual Golden Circle Theatre Party, hosted by SCU’s Board of Fellows. For that big event, Sinatra himself was the headliner.
