First-gen college student tapped for Arts and Culture Commission for City of Gilroy

Among the new commissioners named to the Arts and Culture Commission for Gilroy is Rubén Darío Villa ’10. The former first-generation college student sees his art as a form of storytelling and a way to curate and celebrate his Chicano heritage.

The commission he joins is an advisory body that promotes arts in the community. Villa was appointed to serve for four years.

After 12 years working in tech for behemoths like Apple and Google, Villa opened his own art studio, called Fuchilandia, in Gilroy in March 2023.
