Verbica, Peter

Peter Coe Verbica ’82, J.D. ’99 has been promoted to assistant vice president and senior financial advisor for a wealth management group at a major investment bank. In March, he published three books: The Missing Tales of Sherlock Holmes, Eighty-Eight Lost Haikus (under a different pen name), and Speak Easy and Other Poems. His Sherlock Holmes short stories were praised by novelist Elizabeth McKenzie as "clever and addictive and supremely well done."

Peter Coe Verbica ’82, J.D. ’99 has four daughters; his eldest is at Georgetown in D.C., his second works for the Smithsonian in Panama, his third studies at West Chester, and his youngest resides in Germany. Verbica’s wife is an avid trail runner, placing No. 1 for women overall in a number of races this year. He serves as an assistant VP at a top-tier investment bank in its wealth management group and was recently elected president of the California Congress of Republicans.

A Reno native and fifth-generation Nevadan, he practices primarily in the areas of estate planning, taxation, probate and trust administration, and corporation and business law. He originally joined the law firm in 1999 upon graduating magna cum laude from Santa Clara Law. In 2015 McQuaid was recognized by Nevada Business Weekly as one of Nevada’s Legal Elite in Northern Nevada.

Winge Kerner, Christine (Winge)

Christine Winge ’00 has been appointed executive director of AMP Media in Monterey. Winge, a longtime Monterey Peninsula resident, comes to AMP Media from the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum in Alameda, where she served as the senior director of operations. Her background includes broadcast news, fund development, consulting and operations. She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from SCU and a bachelor’s degree in social science from UC Berkeley. When she’s not working, Winge enjoys spending time with her family, gardening and traveling.

Rory Byrne MBA ’00 has joined the executive team of Billtrust, a leader in payment cycle management, to help meet growing business demands and expansion into new markets. Rory, who will assume the role of executive vice president of Business Development, will oversee corporate partnerships and channel sales, as well as mergers and acquisition strategies. He brings expertise from a variety of leadership roles, including his positions as Senior VP of OEM & Partner Strategy at Kofax, and VP of Business Development at Kapow, a robotic process automation provider, where he was responsible for partner growth through channels and alliances, leading to a successful acquisition by Kofax in 2013. Prior to Kapow, Rory held roles as Director of Corporate Development at Yahoo! Inc., and Director of Interchange Pricing Strategy at Visa.

Rob Lathrop '94, M.S. '01 is the new president of Lathrop Engineering, a Paramit company, that designs and develops medical device and life science instrumentation. As the former VP of engineering at Lathrop, Rob brings more than 20 years of experience in leading multidisciplinary teams, project management, and designing and developing complex scientific instrumentation. He has been instrumental in expanding the company's client base, and his optimization of the product development process now enables Lathrop to complete even the most complex projects on timelines no one else can match. Rob's leadership of design and engineering teams through many successful projects over the years has built strong working relationships with clients, as well as their continued repeat business.

Rob has served on the University's Mechanical Engineering Industry Advisory Board for the last 10 years. Finding it important to give back to young engineers coming up in the ranks, he also contributes his time, mentoring, and training as part of his activities on the board.

Francisca "Kika" Jonsson '01 married Brian Yeung on September 15, 2016, at the New York City Marriage Bureau in Manhattan. The immediate families of the bride and groom were in attendance, including Erik Jonsson '01, his wife Yulia Protasova Jonsson, and their 8-month-old son Jakob; and Alicia Foster '03 and Chris Foster '03 and their two children Eve (5) and Jason (3). Kika is a fine artist in Berlin and Brian works as a director of Service Experience at Blacklane, a transportation startup. The couple lives in Berlin, Germany.

Michael Warren J.D. '02 is a partner at the law firm McManis Faulkner. He leads the firm’s labor and employment litigation and compliance practice. Employers come to him for help with a variety of issues, including discrimination, wage and hour, harassment, leaves of absence, disability accommodation, workplace investigations, employment policies, and class actions. Michael is a member of the Labor and Employment Sections of the American Bar Association and State Bar of California, and serves on the board of directors of the Santa Clara County Bench and Bar Historical Society. He is also a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association and a member of the American Inns of Court, the Honorable William A. Ingram Inn. Michael serves on the board of directors for Family Supportive Housing, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter and supportive services to homeless families in Santa Clara County.

On Nov. 9, 2017, Danielle Slaton ’02 will be inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame. As captain of the 2001 women’s soccer national championship team, a 2000 Olympics silver medalist, and a 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup bronze winner, Slaton has spent her career helping lead teams to success on and off the field. She is Santa Clara’s Coaching for Life Academy director and works as a soccer analyst for NBC, Fox Sports, and the Pac-12 Networks.

Muldoon, Chris

Chris Muldoon '02 is currently working as a Physician Assistant at Amundsen-Scott Station, South Pole, Antarctica, providing medical care (and evacuations as necessary) and facilitating a NASA project that is a very small part of the program aimed at putting man on Mars. He recently finished a winter at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. He is also a member of a global disaster response team and has been a member of all-volunteer mountain rescue teams in the Pacific Northwest for about the last ten years.

He also serves on the board for nonprofits Headlands Center for the Arts and Stern Grove Festival Association. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, drawing, and pillow fighting with his two children—and walking his dog, Mr. Wilson.
