Joseph "Jay" Hurley

Joseph “Jay” Hurley ’83 was known by all as an engaging, caring, gentle man whose kindness knew no bounds. We are comforted by our faith that Jay surely went straight to heaven due to the exemplary life he led. Jay was a fourth-generation San Franciscan born on July 19, 1961. He grew up in Burlingame, the oldest of the four Hurleys, and graduated from St. Catherine of Siena, Serra High School, and SCU. He enjoyed a successful career as a mortgage professional, working side by side with his treasured best friend of almost 40 years, Tony Malone. Jay was admired and respected by his many friends and accordingly was honored as godfather to 13 of their children. Jay lived every aspect of his life with kindness, humility, compassion for others, and the highest level of integrity. He was deeply religious and a devout Catholic. As an active member of St. Dominic’s Parish for the past 18 years, Jay’s life was enhanced both spiritually and personally by his many cherished friends in that community. Jay generously served on the board of directors of The O’Shea Foundation and was a Knight of Malta. Jay passed away peacefully on Feb. 24, 2018, with his loving family at his side. He is survived by his siblings Desmond (Anne), Alannah (the late Steve Chase), and Mark (Terry). He was absolutely adored by his beloved niece and nephews, Alannah and Desmond Hurley and Jack, Clark, and Patrick Chase. Jay is also survived by his aunt, Dolores McKeever Donahue and his many McKeever, Donahue, Porter and Keohane cousins. Jay was predeceased by his parents Joseph D. and Alannah McKeever Hurley, his paternal uncles Bishop Mark Hurley and Archbishop Frank Hurley, his aunt Phyllis Porter (the late Martin), and his maternal uncle and aunt George V. (Val) McKeever and Maire McAuliffe.
