While earning his Ph.D. at Stanford, William Duffy ’53 met his wife, Kay. They were married for 64 years. In 1964, Bill and Kay built their family home in Saratoga, where they raised three children. A gifted craftsman, Bill left his mark on every part of the home, from the patio to a pétanque court that became a favorite gathering spot. He spent his career at Santa Clara University as a dedicated professor, mentor, and longtime department chair in physics. He taught generations of students and helped introduce one of the first undergraduate engineering physics programs in the country. Bill died on March 4, 2025, and is survived by family, including daughter Judith Duffy ’82, son Christopher Duffy ’87, daughter Mary Duffy Braun ’83, and son-in-law Richard Braun ’83, M.S. ’87.
