William Clayton ’71, J.D. ’74, was known for his kindness, wit, and calming presence, most notably while riding horses. At Santa Clara, he excelled in rugby and football and met his future wife, Rosanne Clayton ’71, with whom he had three children. Bill’s commitment to Santa Clara shone through his work with the Bronco Bench Foundation and as a law school teacher and mock trial coach. As a founding partner of his law firm, he built a respected real estate and business practice, earning client loyalty and accolades. Bill died on Aug. 2, 2024, and is survived by family, including son William Clayton ’03 and niece Laura Mason ’00.
