1956

Though drawn to journalism, William Chambers ’56 discovered a love of teaching. His teaching career began in 1958 at Oakland High School and continued for the next eight years in Sacramento at Highlands High and Foothill High. Bill later became a college professor at Sacramento City College, and in 1970 was hired at American River College, where he was a popular history professor until his retirement. He loved sports, especially golf and baseball, and he coached the local softball and baseball teams. Bill was also a wonderful dad, supporting his children and encouraging them all their lives. They will all miss the annual Christmas Eve dinners at Hop Sing’s with Papa Bill, and they’ll always think of him when sharing a glass of Chardonnay or Jack & Coke. Bill died on October 18, 2022, and is survived by family, including son Michael Chambers ’86.
