1957

It was during his time at Santa Clara University that Wallace George Smith ’57 met the woman who would become his wife, Bonita Soe. After they moved to Los Angeles, in 1972, Wally founded Colony Hotels Inc., a boutique resort management company based in Hawaii. It quickly grew to encompass a dozen luxury properties to become the largest resort management company in Hawaii and among the largest in America. Wally pioneered and popularized the vacation rental concept for the travel and tourism industry. Wally had three great passions: reading, sports, and most importantly, his family. He died on March 28, 2021, survived by his three children and two grandchildren.
