Timothy Joseph Riehl ’00 was born on Oct. 28, 1977 to Mary Jo and Steve Riehl. He graduated from Jesuit High School in Sacramento and SCU. An outstanding athlete and avid sports fan, he particularly liked the Giants and considered himself a frustrated 49ers season ticket holder. A loyal, selfless, and faithful friend, Tim left a mark literally and figuratively upon those he loved—like his uncle and godfather John Louis Albanese ’70, who would be greeted by Tim with an Italian “happy to see you” punch to the gut. He was a lover of all things Italian, especially Sinatra, the Godfather trilogy, and his grandmother Rose’s cooking; he even created his own life-changing polpette omelet. His dry, cool wit kept you on your toes. Tim died on Dec. 27, 2018, after valiantly fighting a massive heart infection with complications. Special thanks to the Nelson family of companies for treating him like family, especially Melissa, and to the staff of the Cardiac ICU at UCSF for their incredibly loving care. The world was a better place because of Tim, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the great fortune to know him. He was a loving husband to Debbie and loving son-in-law to Dung and Tony Luu; loving brother to Peter (Monica) and John (Tricia); loving grandson to Rose and Joe Albanese (deceased), Mary Riehl (deceased) and William Riehl; beloved nephew to Mary Anne and Gerry Campos, Joe and Suzy Riehl, and Tony and Siobhan Riehl; loving cousin to numerous Riehls/Albaneses; loving uncle to JT, Claire, Audrey, and Chris Riehl; godfather to several of his many friends’ children; and dogfather to Nuschler, his canine son and the world’s most loyal dog.
