Husband, father, grandfather, and friend Timothy James Rhein ‘62 died at the age of 79 in Carmel, California, on December 26th, 2020. Tim is survived by his wife of 55 years, four children, and eight grandchildren. A native San Franciscan, Tim attended Saint Ignatius High School, Santa Clara University, and pursued his graduate education at William and Mary College. He served in Germany and then Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star Medal. When his military years ended, he embarked on a career with American President Lines (APL), where he advanced to president and CEO. Under Tim’s leadership, APL became a member of the “Fortune 500.”
