Born and raised in Sacramento, Theresa Rose Matista ’81 spent countless hours of her childhood playing with friends at the family’s Hop ranch. Discovering her vocation in education, she held a 32-year career with Los Rios Community College District. While successful professionally, her hard work was a direct sacrifice for her family—ensuring that all her children had easier paths to success founded in strong Catholic faith and fundamentals. No one loved their family more than Theresa and watching her gracefully navigate 18 months of terminal brain cancer, both preparing and eliminating burdens for her family was yet another demonstration of her quiet strength. An avid SF Giants fan, her four daughters were blessed to always have her on the sidelines of their softball games. Theresa died on Sept. 1, 2021.
