While Stephen Carlton ’65, J.D. ’68 loved sports—he was a lifetime Niners fan—he loved his family more. He spent many evenings and weekends coaching and spectating his children and grandchildren on and off the field. Steve’s calling took him to Redding, where he served as district attorney until 1989. He entered private practice in Shasta County before running again for the position of District Attorney in 2010. He served the citizens of Shasta County for an additional six years before retiring in 2016. Steve died on February 7, 2022, and is survived by brother Robert Carlton ’68 and sister-in-law Denise Carlton ’69, daughter Danielle Read ’99, and niece Natalie Carlton ’01.
