Religious studies professor Socorro Castañeda-Liles ’98 recently shared her inspiring life story in Visión magazine, from a grim childhood in Mexico to a career in academia. She’s currently working on a book about the Catholic devotion of Latinas to be published by Oxford University Press, and co-editing a volume of stories by artists, academics, professionals, and entrepreneurs who share similar stories about coming to the United States. Her husband is Josef Castañeda-Liles, development research director at SCU, and they have a daughter. Socorro is also a co-founder of the Sacred Heart Parish Computer Center and a founding member of the San Jose’s Parque de Padre Mateo Sheedy commitee.
