Shelly (Bruneau) Barsanti ’72, a Los Gatos resident and long-time American Cancer Society volunteer, was awarded the St. George National Award at the American Cancer Society California Division Annual Board of Director’s meeting on Oct. 29. This honor is presented to an outstanding volunteer in recognition of distinguished service in achieving the Society’s strategic goals. “The American Cancer Society has an invaluable resource and leader in Shelly Barsanti,” said Michael Chae, Vice President, Silicon Coastal Region of the American Cancer Society. “The theme for the Board this year is ‘fighting for more birthdays starts with you,’ and Shelly is a shining example with her passion and dedication to our mission.” A breast cancer survivor, Barsanti has been a tireless leader and advocate for the American Cancer Society for 16 years. When she discovered that one of the great gaps in cancer support is for young adults, she helped found, fund, and organize a support group for young cancer patients between the ages of 19-30. She is passionate about making the volunteer experience both rewarding and educational while recognizing volunteers for their time and talents.
