Shelby Crespi ’16 received the Richard J. Riordan Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to community service. Shelby was a Public Health Science major and Biology minor. She was a 2015 Global Social Benefit Fellow through the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship which took her to Africa. She has been a part of the Resilient Families Project (RFP) where she has co-led their intervention program entirely in Spanish. Her epidemiology class with Dr. Katherine Saxton was "definitely a transformative class," according to Shelby, and directed her toward what she will be study in graduate school. In the fall, Shelby will be attending the University of Minnesota’s Master in Public Health Program in epidemiology. Her advice to students: "Be open minded" and things may just fall into your lap that shape you to become a better person. She thanks all of her friends and family for making her experience at SCU such a positive one that she says she will really miss.
