Russell M. “Russ” Allen J.D. ’65 was born in Portland, Oregon, on March 21, 1939, to John M. Allen and Lois (Balzer) (Allen) Tupling. He attended Duniway Grade School and Cleveland High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University in 1961 and a J.D. degree from SCU in 1965. Russ began his law practice in 1965 and retired in 2016 as a partner in Allen & Sheridan. His practice areas included transportation, business transaction and litigation, estate planning, and probate. He was a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Multnomah County Bar Association, the Transportation Lawyers Association, and the Estate Planning Council of Portland. Russ was a golfer from a very early age. Among his favorite experiences were many golf trips with friends to Scotland, Ireland, and England. He was an active member of Waverley Country Club and the Multnomah Athletic Club and a rabid follower of Stanford football, having been a sportswriter for the Stanford Daily in college, as well as sports in general. He died on May 2, 2018, in Portland and is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years and caregiver, Joyce Allen; his children, Rodney and John Allen and Denise Eunson, all of Portland; Joyce’s daughters Kristin Howell (Harold Carlston) of Portland, Meagan MacKay (Steve) of Tsawwassen, British Columbia, and Aimee McAllister (Justin); six grand and step-grandchildren; and siblings Michael B. Allen Sr. and Lucinda Blair, both of Portland. Russ will be remembered for his loyalty to friends, sense of humor, warm smile, quick wit, and clever repartee.
