Roderick Read ’51 possessed the coveted ability to make everyone feel like the most important person in the room. During his college years, he was not only captain of the boxing team but also a member of ROTC and senior class president. After graduating, he married his best friend, Nancy, and together they raised six sons. Serving as a first lieutenant in the Korean War, he earned the Bronze Star with Valor. In 1953, he founded his own contracting business, Rod Read & Sons, building custom homes, apartments, and commercial properties. Rod died on Nov. 19, 2024, and is survived by family including son Mark Read ’76 and daughter-in-law Helen Read ’76. Rod is preceded in death by nephew Knox Parker ’73.
