Robert Raymond Benz ’70 was born on Nov. 30, 1936, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of the late Raymond William Benz and Elma Lewis Benz. After serving in the Army he went on to graduate from SCU. Bob owned Benz Microscope Optics for many years, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed golf, coin collecting, and traveling. At the age of 82, Bob passed away on Aug. 12, 2019, at his home in Fort Mill, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, LaLoie Paterson Benz; two sons, Raymond William Benz (Dawn) and Michael Lawrence Benz (Terri); and six grandchildren: Katherine Silva, Emily Benz, Matthew Benz, Robert Benz, Kelsey Benz, and Kayla Benz.
