Robert George Scheid was born on March 6, 1926, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Raised in Sacramento, he graduated from Christian Brothers High School and earned a bachelor’s degree at San Jose State. Bob was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II and enjoying a 35-year career with the San Jose Mercury News in the advertising department. In his retirement, he enjoyed backpacking and fishing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He was an avid golfer and for five years he coached the SCU golf team. He also spent many years swimming at the Malley Center on campus. Bob passed away peacefully on Nov. 27, 2018. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Marilyn Scheid, his nieces and nephews, and his Willow Glen and Santa Clara family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferd and Inez Scheid, and his brother, Gerald Scheid.
