World War II interrupted the time Dr. Robert A Helfrich ’49 spent at Santa Clara. But after serving as a medic in the South Pacific with the Marines, he returned to finish his college education. He went on to study medicine at Stanford. He practiced anesthesia for more than 35 years at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. He died in May 2020, at 97. Bob is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and brothers Eugene F. Helfrich ’51 and Philip Helfrich ’51. Brother William J. Helfrich ’38 proceeded Bob in death.
