Rita Bishop M.A. ’72 was a devoted educator, visionary leader, and compassionate soul whose 50-year career transformed the lives of countless students and families. From her early days as a teacher to her roles as vice principal, principal, and assistant superintendent, Rita led with both wisdom and heart. She believed deeply in the power of education, a belief that earned her recognition as Virginia Superintendent of the Year in 2014 and Yale University’s Distinguished Music Educator national award in 2015. Rita was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and loyal friend, whose vibrant spirit and kindness left a lasting imprint on everyone. Rita died on May 23, 2025.
