1954

The San Francisco Bay lost a devoted fisherman when Richard Pera ’54 died on Sept. 3, 2022. Dick hauled in salmon, striped bass, crab, and more aboard the Whaler One for decades. He was full of stories about his Fall River fishing trips, his days on the bay, and his bird-hunting escapades. He could talk endlessly about his favorite football teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the USC Trojans, and was fond of reciting a poem about the pelican whose “beak can hold more than his belly can.” He was generous with his fishing, hunting bounty, and famous for his delicious duck and dove dinners. Dick is survived by extended family, including cousin Julie Widergren ’99.
