Richard E. Lang ’74 was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Edwin and Elizabeth Lang, and moved with his family to Berkeley Heights, New Jersey as a child. Rick was a graduate of Delbarton School and Santa Clara University. After college graduation, he achieved his childhood dream and became a Naval aviator. He loved flying the P-3 Orion aircraft and had many fond memories of his days in the Navy. He wore the uniform with pride and was recognized for his exemplary service. After leaving the military, Rick was employed by Republic Airlines and by Northwest Airlines as a commercial pilot. After leaving the airlines, Rick was employed by IT Solutions and worked in the Advanced Computing Group at AT&T. Rick’s love of family, friends, and country, his kindness towards animals, and his witty sense of humor enabled him to find and give joy to many. This, combined with his avid intellectual curiosity, knowledge of history, and extensive travel created a full and wonderful life. At age 66, Rick passed away on Jan. 8, 2019, at his home. He was predeceased by his sisters, Cynthia Lang and Linda Lang Giniecki, and by his brother, Michael Lang. He is survived by his cousins Marianne Brager, Janet Coccaro, Jim Coccaro, Jeanne Lang Siefert, and Tom Lang. He is also survived by his friend and companion, Betsy DeHart, and her daughters, Lisa and Susan DeHart.
