As a member of the Santa Clara boxing team, Ralph Paoli ’60 competed at the 1960 National Collegiate Boxing Championships. After graduating, he served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, and achieved the rank of captain. His platoon was on alert during the Cuban Missile Crisis. While in the service, he met Judy Bockbrader—and in 2023 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After the Army, Ralph became a CPA and served his community as an accountant in Elko, Nevada. As a member of the school board, he initiated the “pay as you go tax” to create a funding source for new schools. He was involved in the community effort to relocate the train tracks that ran through Elko’s downtown, and was a long-time member of the Elko Rotary Club. Ralph died Dec. 8, 2023, and is survived by family, including daughter Mary Paolo ’97.
