1952

Philip Ernstrom ’52 was the youngest 96-year-old anyone had ever known. After serving in the Navy, he pursued his education on the GI Bill at Santa Clara University, where he met his future wife, Angela. With her support, Phil realized his dream of becoming a doctor, leading him to become a general surgeon for 30 years. Phil’s lifelong curiosity and kindness led to him being awarded Santa Clara’s Ignatian Award in 2004 for his service. Phil died on Sept. 20, 2024, and is survived by daughter Natalee Ernstrom ’81, daughter Patricia Ernstrom ’88, and son-in-law Bale Du Bois ’75. He is preceded in death by brother-in-law Edward Panelli ’53.
