Peter Friedrich ’91, along with his group of drama students from Sulaimaniyah, Iraq, will be performing at the famed Oregon Shakespeare Festival this summer. The group, Shakespeare Iraq, will perform some Bard-inspired drama with a uniquely Iraqi touch.
Last summer, Friedrich, who has degrees from Santa Clara University and San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater, with some help from colleagues, directed what is believed to be the first-ever Shakespeare production in English in a public theater in Iraq. This caught the attention of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which invited the troupe to come and perform.
