Ellen M. Olsen

Following in his grandfather’s footsteps Perry Olsen ’71 became a freemason. He served as master of Pajaro Lodge and later joined the Order of the Eastern Star as worthy patron of the Santa Cruz Redwoods Chapter. Perry also had a passion for music, backpacking, and sailing. He fell in love with the Grateful Dead in the ’60s and would travel to live shows for the remainder of the band’s existence. After getting married, he and his wife, Ellen Olsen ’73, spent their honeymoon on a two-month backpacking trip following the Pacific Crest Trail. When his sons were old enough, Perry would take them on a backpacking trip every summer. Later in life, Perry found a love for the open sea and he’d sail as far south as Central America, out to Hawaii, and north to Alaska. Perry died Aug. 8, 2022.
