Dr. Perlita R. Dicochea ’97‘s manuscript, "Between Borderlands and Bioregionalism: Life-Place Lessons Along a Polluted River," will be published in the upcoming Spring 2010 issue of the Journal of Borderlands Studies, 25/1. In this piece, Dr. Dicochea explores the relationships between bioregionalism and borderland life-ways in the narratives of Mexican and Mexican American residents living along the toxic binational New River, which crosses the Mexicali and Imperial Valley dessert regions of Southern and Baja California. JBS is the journal of the international Association for Borderland Studies (ABS). More than 120 libraries su ribe to JBS across the world in 18 different countries. Dr. Dicochea is an Assistant Professor in Ethnic Studies at SCU. Her research areas include environmental racism and environmental justice policy. She graduated from SCU with a major in Communication and minors in Ethnic Studies and Women & Gender Studies in 1997. She earned her MA in Communication/Rhetoric at Arizona State University in 1999 and her Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies at U.C. Berkeley in 2006.
