Patrick O’Leary Doherty ’61 was born July 22, 1939, in Seattle to Bruce and Jean Doherty. After his family relocated to Portland he attended Ainsworth Elementary and Lincoln High School. Pat guided his Lincoln High teams to state championships in both basketball and baseball. He then attended SCU, where he earned a bachelor’s. After college Pat worked for the General Electric Company until he joined his father at Doherty Ford in Forest Grove. Pat succeeded his father as the dealer principal of the Ford agency from 1973 until 2013. Under his leadership the dealership was able to survive two major recessions and earn multiple sales and customer satisfaction awards. Pat also served as the chair of the Northwest Ford Dealer’s Advertising Association. In 1974 he married the love of his life, Yiannoula. In addition to the three children from his first marriage and Yianna’s four from her first marriage, they had two more children of their own. The two of them shared 44 years of beautiful marriage and never a dull moment. Their lives were spent traveling—with one of their favorite destinations being Yianna’s remote village in Greece—enjoying friendships, and most of all family, lots of family. Pat passed away on March 24, 2019, of natural causes. He was in his home surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Jean Doherty. Pat is survived by his wife, Yianna; children Brennan Doherty ’87, Kristin, Deirdre, Michael, Patrick, Anastasia, George, Mag, and Demetri; siblings, Maureen, Mike, Colleen, Tim, Denny, Brian, Kevin, and Kelly Doherty ’78; and 18 grandchildren.
