1965

Patrick Carter ’65 was a devoted San Francisco sports fan and an avid athlete early on in life, competing in boxing and wrestling matches for the Olympic Club. He found his true calling during the Vietnam War, when he was made captain in the artillery division and awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievements in ground operations against hostile forces. His experiences in Vietnam made him dedicate his life to medicine: He went on to practice internal medicine at St. Mary’s hospital in San Francisco. Outside of his work, Patrick will be remembered for his Irish gift of gab, stubbornness, and the uncanny ability to assign everyone a unique nickname. Patrick died July 25, 2023.
