Creighton University, in Omaha, Nebraska, welcomes Nicholas J.C. Santos, S.J., Th.M. ’02, Ph.D. to its Board of Trustees. Fr. Santos brings a wealth of experience in Jesuit higher education. He is an assistant professor of marketing at the College of Business at Marquette University, in Milwaukee, and the co-director of Marquette’s social innovation initiative. He advises Marquette’s Alpha Sigma Nu chapter as well as the student chapter of Changemakers, which expands social innovation and entrepreneurship among students to help tackle the world’s most pressing problems.
A native of Pune, India, Santos holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from the University of Pune; bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and theology from Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth, also in Pune; a master’s in theology from the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University; and MBA and Ph.D. degrees from Marquette University.
Prior to entering the Jesuits, Santos was an accountant for a chemical distributor and transportation company. As a Jesuit, he taught for eight years at St. Vincent’s College of Commerce in Pune, which has a special emphasis on providing business education to low-income students. He spent three years as a visiting scholar and post-doctoral fellow at Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics and was also involved with the Global Social Benefit Incubator program of the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara.
