Filmmaker-screenwriter Neal Jimenez ’82, best known for helming “The Waterdance,” a movie based on his own life, and “River’s Edge,” died  Dec. 11, 2022. He began writing plays and producing Super 8 films as a kid. By high school, Neal started writing professionally and worked with the LA Weekly and California Magazine while majoring in English at SCU. He became a script doctor, writing scripts for directors including Martin Scorsese, Robert Redford, Madonna, Tom Hanks, and others. His works won many awards, including at the Independent Spirit Awards and the Sundance Film Festival. Jimenez created and co-directed other movies, including “Where the River Runs Black” and “Hideaway.”
