Michonne Ascuaga ’83 was featured in a Nevada Today article about how, as an advisory board member of the Center for Basque Studies, she led an effort to relocate the Basque Sheepherder sculpture from the Nugget Casino Resort to the University of Nevada Reno campus. The Center hosted an event celebrating the unveiling of the statue on the Day of the Basque Diaspora, a day which celebrates Basque living outside of the Basque country. Michonne explained that this is the moment for Nevada to witness its diverse history and Basque heritage through art, music, and food.
