In his career as an OB/GYN, Michael Shea ’61 delivered more than 2,500 babies. He was chairman of the OB/GYN Department of San Jose Hospital, served as president of the Shufelt Gynecological Society of Santa Clara County, and led the committee that founded the first alternative birth center in San Jose. In retirement Mike co-authored books about medicine in the Santa Clara Valley and other history-related essays—he was a member of the California Pioneers of Santa Clara County. Mike also loved fishing, a passion he shared with his family on frequent trips to Lake Tahoe. He died Sep. 11, 2023, and is survived by family including son Michael Shea ’92.
