Everyone noticed the good spirit and gentle ways of Michael Phillip Classen ’77. He found joy in each morning, ice cream, and visiting with the neighborhood dogs. Shortly after graduating from SCU with his Psychology degree, Michael was diagnosed with a serious mental illness. He returned home to continue his recovery and became a mentor to his peers and young people at the OMNI Center in Salinas. He died in July 2020.
